Marauders looking for first rugby win

The Marauders men’s rugby team dropped its second Ontario University Athletics outing, 43-17 to the visiting Guelph Gryphons on Sunday (Sept. 9) at McMaster’s Back 10 field.

The Gryphons had taken an early lead when Graeme Mahar scored the try. But the Marauders recovered with a pair of trys from Andrew Ferguson and Ryan Fried. Ferguson also connected for the two converts and a penalty goal but the Marauders were shutout for the rest of the game.

Guelph stormed back with three tries before the first half was over. Bryon Boville, Braden Stubel and Robert Paris had the majors with Joe Newman connecting for all three converts. The score going into the second half would favour the visitors, 26-17.

In the second half, three more Gryphons would get on the board with tries, coming from Nicholas Walters, P Sinel and Jeffrey McKenzie. Newman would put up two more points for the convert from the last try of the game.

McMaster travels to Kingston to take on the RMC Paladins on Saturday, Sept. 15.
