Mac soccer men move into CIS No. 4 spot

The McMaster Marauders men’s soccer team has jumped two positions in Canadian Interuniversity Sport national rankings.

The Marauders moved to No. 4 after starting the season ranked No. 6. McMaster has started play in Ontario University Athletics with a 3-0 record.

On the women’s side, the Marauders rugby team fell to the No. 9 position after starting the season ranked No. 6. The Marauders are 1-1 in league play.

The Montreal Carabins are the new team to beat in CIS women’s soccer, moving up one position to No. 1 in the second national coaches’ poll of the campaign. Meanwhile, Victoria and St. Francis Xavier hold on to their No. 1 rankings in men’s soccer and women’s rugby, respectively.

In men’s soccer, defending CIS champ Victoria (2-0-0) cruised through its opening weekend of Canada West action, sweeping a two-game series at home against CIS newcomer UNBC, 3-1 and 8-0. The Vikes should be tested this week when they visit Trinity (1-0-1) on Friday and No. 6 UBC (2-0-0) on Saturday.

No. 2 Cape Breton (2-0-0), No. 3 Alberta (2-0-0) and No. 4 McMaster (3-0-0) are all on the rise in the new coaches’ poll, while Saint Mary’s (1-0-0) drops three positions to No. 5.
