Hamilton women’s baseball team looking for players

Major league baseball may be winding down for the season, but the Hamilton Women’s Baseball Club is just getting started – for a mini-schedule this year and recruiting for next year.

The women’s team will run a short Fall Ball season to acquaint potential players to the game and recruit players for its tournament team.

The club hopes to compete in the Central Ontario Girls Baseball League as well as operate two house league teams.

The first tryout will run this Saturday (Sept. 15). Players 14 years and older (there is no upward age limit) interested are asked to contact Jacy Flynn at 905-574-3941 or abequeacademy@hotmail.com for details and to register.

Saturday’s game is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Mahoney Park.

On Saturday, the club will also be looking for players for the Hamilton Lady Cardinals for the 2013 team. The team will consist of up to 15 women 17 years and older.

Once established, the competitive team will be having a weekly practice, scheduled games and will participate in three or four tournaments during the season.

The Hamilton Women’s Baseball Club’s house league teams will play on a weekly weekend basis, against one another, and against teams from the COGBL. The club is also planning to have teams for younger girls.

The club emphasizes that experience is not a requirement.

Those attending Saturday’s session should wear appropriate clothing and bring a glove and ball cap. Please indicate if you are a pitcher or a catcher or wish to be one.
