Mac rout’s Trent in women’s rugby


The McMaster women’s rugby team improved its record to 2-1 with a convincing 47-7 decision over the Trent Excalibur in Ontario University Athletics play on Saturday (Sept. 15).

Six different Marauders got on the score board in the win. First-year Stephanie Black (Ottawa) scored a try and completed all but one convert for the Marauders for 17 points in the win. Madolyn Vande Pol (East York, Ont.) also came up big in the win with two tries.

Marauders Christine Van Beest (Wasaga Beach, Ont.), Alison McFadden (Barrie), Hannah Braithwaite (Kingston), and Sarah Farquharson (Niagara Falls) all scored a try each to contribute to the McMaster win.

Scoring for the Excalibur was Johanna Shave (Southampton) and Celeigh Harris (Lakefield) made the convert.

Next up for McMaster is the No. 5 nationally ranked Queen’s Gaels. The Marauders will welcome the Gaels on Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. on Mac’s Back Ten Field.
