Mac soccer women finding goals scarce

The McMaster women’s soccer team tallied its second tie of the season, a scoreless draw, against the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday (Sept. 15) at Ron Joyce Stadium.

The result left the Marauders with a 2-1-2 record, good for third place in the West division

Playing their second game this week – they were held scoreless in a 0-0 stalemate with York on Wednesday – the Marauders found themselves again unable to hit pay dirt after 90 minutes. With opportunities in both halves, McMaster’s front line was shut down. Despite some free kick opportunities from scoring range, McMaster came away empty handed. .

On the other end of the field, McMaster’s tight defence did not allow the Gryphons many chances. Around the 70-minute mark, Marauder goalkeeper Brittany Duffey (Markham, Ont.) made a jumping, diving save on what looked like a sure goal from a Guelph forward to maintain another shut out.

The Marauders take on the UOIT Ridgebacks on Sunday on the road at 1p.m.
