It was a tough opening day for Mohawk in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association rugby on Saturday (Sep 15).
The Mountaineer men dropped a 35-19 decision to the Conestoga Condors in Kitchener. Conestoga led 22-14 at half time. Mohawk narrowed the deficit to 22-19, but the Condors pulled away for the victory.
Jacob Kit led the Mountaineers with two tries and two conversions.
Mohawk head coach Bill Stuart said it was a good hard game, but Conestoga was more experienced and more forceful. Mistakes and missed tackles led to most of the Conestoga scoring plays.
The women’s team had an even tougher outing. They were shutout, 64-0, by Conestoga.
Both Mountaineers teams are back in action on Saturday (Sept.22) when the Humber Hawks visit Mohawk.
