Marauders build on second place standing

The Marauders’ men’s soccer team won its fifth game of the season, a 1-0 victory over the University of Ontario Institute of Technology Ridgebacks on Sunday (Sept. 16).

The Ontario University Athletics victory leaves the Marauders in second place in the West division with a 5-1 record. The Marauders only loss was a 3-1 setback to the league leading and undefeated (6-0) York Lions, who have outscored their opponents 20-1.

Sunday’s lone and game-winning goal came from the foot of defender Andrew Pastoric (Oakville). The commerce student scored his second goal of the season in just the third minute of play.

Mac held a strong edge in play and finished with a 13-1 edge in shots on net but could manage just the single marker. UOIT is 1-5 on the season.

The win was McMaster goalkeeper Angelo Cavalluzzo’s (Hamilton) first shut out of the season.

McMaster visits the Brock Badgers, who are winless in four outings, on Friday (Sept. 21).
