Week six of the Ontario Football Conference finds Hamilton Hurricanes running back Ryan Kotar the offensive player of the week.
The third-year RB led the Hurricanes to a big road win over the St. Leonard Cougars on Saturday (Sept. 15) in a rematch of one of last season’s OFC semi-finals.
The financial planning student at Mohawk College had a huge day with 28 rushes for 192 yards and two touchdowns. The former Bishop Ryan High School grad was a major contributor to the Hurricanes who produced 505 yards of offense on the day.
Kotar will try to lead the Hurricanes to their sixth consecutive victory, when they travel to play the Burlington Braves on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Nelson Stadium. The Braves handed the Hurricanes their only loss this season, 45-38, on opening day at Hamilton’s home field.
Hamilton shares first place with the London Beefeaters.
Mason Beekhuis, a third year linebacker for Windsor had an amazing all-around performance in the AKO Fratmen’s 23-7 victory over the Burlington Braves to earn defensive player of the week honours.
Beekhuis was all over the field with five solo tackles, one batted ball, one fumble recovery and one interception, amassing 18 defensive points. Along with his defensive mates, Beekhuis and company held the Braves to a mere 80 yards rushing and forced eight turnovers on the evening.
The Fratmen will look to knock off the Beefeaters this Saturday in Windsor.
The special teams player of the week is London’s Zach Medeiros. The third year punter/place kicker was good on 3-of-4 field goals, had one punt for 41 yards, five kick-offs for 318, was 4-for-4 on converts for 13 points, and even contributed with one rush for 18 yards in Windsor’s 37-8 win over the Twin Cities Predators.
He will put his best foot forward when the Beefeaters travel to Windsor to play the Fratmen.
