Humber College is defending Ontario Colleges Athletic Association champions in both men’s and women’s rugby. And they appear to be well positioned to keep those crowns this year.
On Saturday (Sep. 22) at Mohawk Sports Park the Hawks topped the century mark in points in both games with the Mountaineers.
On Sept. 14, Humber blanked Sheridan 104-0. Saturday, they came to Hamilton and scored the same number of points in a 104-10 blowout of the Mountaineers to improve to 2-0 this season.
Thomas Piche and Eric Moyer scored the tries for Mohawk.
Mountaineers’ head coach Bill Stuart stated the obvious in noting that the Hawks are very good.
“Humber was a nice strong team with lots of evasive ability that we could not stop,” said Stuart. “They moved the ball very well and beat the heck out of us.”
It was even more lopsided in the women’s game as the Hawks rolled to a 115-0 verdict. The Humber women have outscored their opponents 182-0 so far.
Both Humber squads are now 2-0 while Mohawk’s teams are 0-2 in the West Region.
