Four golfers from Mohawk College carded scores in the 70s in an Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Invitational event at Hunters Pointe Golf Course in Welland on Wednesday (Sep. 26).
Mike Rizzetto led the Mountaineer shooters with a four-over par 76 on the Grahame Cooke designed 7,016 yard layout, formerly known as LochNess Links.
Colin Streutker was one stroke back at 77, while Connor Wilks and Rob Vachon each shot 79.
Other Mohawk men’s scores included Brendan Green, (82), Mike Doyle, (88), Darcy Davis, (90), Dayton Coutts, (90), and Nick Fasciano, (96).
Ashley Cochrane was the top Mohawk woman, shooting 98, while Jessica Fell carded 106.
Mountaineers’ head coach Deborah Lee Eldridge said the tournament was a great success for her team.
“Many of our players improved their scores from our first event (in London) and we had four players shoot in the 70s,” said Eldridge. “The course was a great test of golf and the players enjoyed it very much. It was long and had very slick and undulating greens. We were lucky with the weather and only had a little bit of rain off and on.
Playing last Saturday’s tournament definitely helped us for today, and both are an excellent warm-up for the OCAA Championship next week.”
The OCAA event is Oct. 1-3 in Windsor.
