Tourney gives Mohawk rookies experience

With a couple of losses Sunday (Sept. 30) the Mohawk women’s volleyball team finished sixth at the 10th Annual Overkill Fanshawe College Kick-Off tournament in London.

There may have been some drowsiness for the 8:30 a.m. start to their match with Seneca, which saw the Mountaineers lose 12-25, 16-25.

Rookie setter Lynsay Collette led Mohawk with 16 assists and two service aces.

The Mountaineers then bowed, in a real close match, 21-25, 25-19, 13-15, to St. Clair.

Captain Kristin VanHartingsvedt had five kills and two aces. Collette contributed six aces and 22 assists.

Mohawk coach Andrew Nicholson thought his young Ontario Colleges Athletic Association team fared very well. “The tournament was a great learning experience for our nine rookies,” said Nicholson. “Overall I was very pleased with our progress as a team”
