Nick Shortill and Victoria Coates are this week’s Pita Pit Athletes of the Week
Shortill, a second-year linebacker for the Marauders was a defensive force for McMaster in the Marauders 33-27 win over No. 6 Western over the weekend. The Nobleton native was all over the field making plays and registered 11 tackles, including 10 of the solo variety, and also had three quarterback sacks as the McMaster defense applied constant pressure on the Mustangs QBs.
Coates, a fourth-year runner, led McMaster’s women’s cross country team to its second win in the same amount of meets over the weekend at the prestigious Loyola University Lakefront Invitational in Chicago.
The Newmarket native finished the 5K event in just 17 minutes and 30 seconds for second place. This is the first time in the meet’s 40-year history that a Canadian school has won the team event.
