Blues players anchor Canadian rugby team

Two players from the Golden Horseshoe and one from Brantford have been selected to play for Canada at the upcoming 2012 IRB Americas Rugby Championship (ARC). The squad will hit the pitch for Canada Oct. 12, 16 and 20 at Westhills Stadium in Langford, B.C.

Joining 22 other players from across Canada are Alistair Clark, Ray Barkwill, and Tyler Ardron, all members of the provincial Ontario Blues team, which had 10 players in total chosen for the national squad.

Clark, a resident of Oakville, is also a member of the Oakville Crusaders. Barkwill, from Port Colborne, competes for Niagara and the Crusaders, while Ardron, a Lakefield resident, is a member of the Brantford Harlequins.

The IRB Americas Rugby Championship, a round-robin tournament, will see the Canadian side, made up entirely of Canadian Rugby Championships (CRC) players, face teams from the USA, Argentina and Uruguay. Canada will face Uruguay on Oct. 12, the USA on Oct. 16th and Argentina on Oct. 20.

The Blues are 2012 CRC champions.
