Two Sheridan athletes have taken home Ontario Colleges Athletic Association players of the week awards for their accomplishments during the seven-day period ending Sunday, Oct. 7.
Courtney Ross and James Shanly were named female and male rugby players of the week as both Sheridan teams won their first-ever OCAA games.
In the women’s rugby victory, a 22-10 decision over Mohawk, Ross (Whitby) contributed two tries in the win. The Bruin now has three tries on the season as the win ended a three-game losing streak.
Shanly gets his award in the wake of the Bruins history-making 19-15 win over Mohawk in men’s play. The Mississauga native powered his way through a pair of would-be tacklers late in the match to score the winning try as the Bruins battled back from a 10-point deficit.
Other OCAA weekly awards went to: Georgians’ Colton Kalkanis, golf, overall male athlete; Durham’s Tiffany Albath, golf, overall female athlete; Humber’s and Fanshawe’s men’s golf, overall men’s teams; St. Clair’s women’s golf, overall women’s team; Durham’s Sydney Kozuska, women’s fastball; Fleming’s Brett Fair, men’s soccer; and Humber’s Brittany Szcerbakow, women’s soccer.
