Oshawa – The McMaster men’s tennis team finished fifth at the recent Ontario University Athletics championships.
The men scored 6.5 points. The Western Mustangs were first with 16.5 points followed by York (10.5), Montreal (7.5), Waterloo (7), Mac, UOIT (2.5) and Toronto (2).
McMaster’s women’s team came away empty handed. Western also claimed the women’s title at the competition played from Oct.5-7 at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) at the Campus Tennis Centre in Oshawa.
The tournament was an elimination draw divided up into 6 flights, based on players results and position during the regular season. Abbas Panju (Thornhill) was seeded No. 3 in the first flight, while Josh Cadesky (Thornhill) entered the third flight as the No. 1 seed, Jake Morris (Etobicoke) as the No.4 seed in the fourth flight, and Michael Salib (Mississauga) went in as the No.2 seed in the sixth flight.
Mac’s David Pinto (Burlington) and Ryan Lau (Mississauga) also entered the third flight of doubles as a potential medal threat, receiving a bye as well as the No.1 seeded position.
