The McMaster women’s team strung together three wins to improve their regular season record to 6-2-1 in Ontario University Athletics lacrosse play.
The Marauders remained perfect at home after beating Queen’s Gaels, 8-3, York Lions, 10-8 (both on Oct. 6) and Brock Badgers, 10-3 (Oct. 10).
In a rescheduled game, the Badgers and the Marauders battled on Alumni Field. Aggressive defence forced many turnovers and created scoring opportunities in Brock’s end. A determined McMaster defence kept the Badgers in check.
Goal scorers for McMaster included Kyra Reilly (Grimsby), Lindsay Hamilton (Mississauga) and Stephanie Ball (Brampton) with two each, and Jackie Heaton (Peterborough), Chantelle Carnegie (Kingston) and Steph Sullivan (Bethany) with singles.
On Saturday, the Marauders began their weekend matches with a huge win over Queen’s, defeating Queen’s for the first time in school history,
“We won the ground ball war and out hustled the Gaels, which was so key,” said head coach Silvana Yee. “There was phenomenal play from both ends of the field and we had outstanding goaltending from rookie Christina McCauley.”
Goal scorers for McMaster included Heaton with the hat trick, Carnegie, Hamilton, Reilly and Erica Crowder (Whitby).
Against the York Lions, Gatt (Avondale, PA) scored four, Hamilton had three, Heaton scored two more, and Ball rounded it out with one.
McMaster finishes off the regular season with games against the Guelph Gryphons and the Western Mustangs on Oct. 14.
