Toronto – In a contest McMaster never trailed, the Marauders women’s basketball turned in an impressive game, defeating the Ryerson Rams, 79-40, on Saturday (Oct.13) at the Darcel Wright Memorial Classic.
The Marauders began the game on a 13-0 run and never looked back as they cruised to victory.
The Rams had difficulty retaining possession throughout the game, committing 32 turnovers which McMaster converted for 22 points. The Marauders held a 27-7 lead after the first quarter and increased the margin to 33 at half with a 48-15 score.
Ryerson’s Annie Sokoloff (North Vancouver, B.C.) had a strong third quarter for the Rams, dropping eight points to help Ryerson outscore the Marauders 13-9 in the frame. McMaster’s offence lapsed for six scoreless minutes and scored just nine points in the third but still maintained a 57-28 lead after three quarters.
Danielle Boiago (Hamilton) and Vanessa Bonomo (Dundas) nailed back to back three pointers to open the scoring in the fourth for the Marauders. Hailey Milligan (Brantford) then took over scoring six straight points from in the paint and the Marauders cruised to the 79-40 victory.
Sokoloff recorded a double-double for the Rams with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds in 35 minutes for Ryerson. Silvana Jez (Kitchener) also had 11 rebounds in the loss.
Milligan led the Marauders with a game-high 16 points and also collected 10 rebounds. Bonomo and Isabel Ormond (Hamilton) added 12 points while Boiago contributed 10 more on Saturday.
