The Mohawk men’s basketball team climbed out of a 17-point half time hole and stole an 80-78 overtime victory from the touring Quincy Hawks of Illinois at the Fennell Gym on Saturday (Oct. 13).
It was a thrilling exhibition battle between the reigning Canadian College Athletic Association champions and the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II team.
Veteran Manny Campbell had a monster night, leading all scorers with 31 points and four assists. Mountaineer teammate Andrew Cicuttini had 13 points and six rebounds and Taylor Dowhaniuk added 11 points and five boards.
“I thought we showed a lot of character in coming back,” said Mohawk head coach Brian Jonker. “Manny showed why he is the best point guard in the country as he was fantastic tonight.”
Chris Babbitt led Quincy with 20 points.
