Soccer Marauders set to meet undefeated York Lions

McMaster Marauders capped their home portion of Ontario University Athletics men’s soccer with a 2-0 victory on Sunday (Oct. 14) against the UOIT Ridgebacks at Ron Joyce Stadium.

While Mac has three road games remaining in regular season play, the win improved the Marauders to 11-1-1 and left them in second place in the West Division. Marauders are unbeaten in their last nine games, eight wins and a scoreless tie.

Mac’s first goal came at the 39th minute of the game from a short pass off a corner kick. Second-year Ryan Garnett (Kitchener) was on the receiving end of the kick at the top of the 18-yard box and made no mistake depositing the ball into the net.

In the second half, McMaster struck again when defender Dominik Blachut (Mississauga) scored his first OUA career goal as a Marauder.

Near the 70th minute, tensions between both teams’ coaches resulted in yellow cards to each. Minutes after the arguments, Ridgeback Jordan Harvey (Port Perry) was issued his second card of the game.

The Marauders will get a true test on Wednesday (Oct.17) when they play at York. The Lions are undefeated with a 12-0-1 record to lead the West Division.
