The Mohawk men’s team finished fourth, in a field of 16, at the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Cross Country Championships in Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday (Oct. 20). Fanshawe took the men’s team honours in the event hosted by Algoma University.
One hundred runners competed in the eight kilometre race. Jessie Wilcox was the top Mountaineer, finishing 14th, in a time of 26:34.4. Kevin Patterson was 22nd in 27:25.7.
Other Mohawk men’s results includes: Bradley Wilcox – 25th (27:51.8); Hassan Ishaq – 26th (27:54.3); Luc Seguin – 29th (28:02.7); John Miles – 32nd (28:10.6); and Dan Namisniak – 71st (31:35.8).
The men’s race was won by Fanshawe’s Clint Smith, who was timed in 24:53.2. Andrew DeGroot of St. Clair was second, clocked in 25:25.8
The women’s five kilometre championship had a field of 71 and Mohawk’s Kassandra O’Reilly finished 32nd in 20:55.9. Sarah Bush was 63rd in 24:46.2.
Richelle Moore of St. Lawrence (Kingston) won in 18:22.0. Stephanie Braithwaite of Seneca was right behind in 18:28.9.
Humber won the women’s team title. Mohawk did not have enough runners to count in the team standings.
