Rookie Danielle Boiago’s performance on the weekend has earned her McMaster Marauders Female Pita Pit Athlete of the Week.
This first-year basketball sensation led the Marauders to the tournament championship at the Laval Rouge et Or tournament in Quebec City. Boiago scored 26 points in the team’s 82-59 opening win over UPEI, added 20 as the Marauders defeated York 80-38, and dropped 18 in the tournament final as McMaster beat Laval 66-49.
The Hamilton native averaged 21 points-per-game over the three games and was chosen tournament MVP.
Taking the male honour was Austin Campion-Smith.
The third-year volleyball player and starting setter for the Marauders, had a strong showing as McMaster opened Ontario University Athletics conference play with a 3-0 sweep over the York Lions.
Directing the Marauder offence flawlessly, he finished with 36 assists over the three sets, and also played a strong match defensively.
