Marauders blank Western but lose second place finish

Despite blanking the Western Mustangs, 1-0, on Sunday (Oct. 21) the McMaster Marauders women’s soccer team had to settle for a third place finish in Ontario University Athletics.

Mac and Western finished with identical 10-4-2 records but the Mustangs get the nod based on the OUA tie-breaking formula.

The Marauders will be hosts to the UOIT Ridgebacks, sixth place finishers in the OUA West, on Wednesday (Oct.24) at 3 p.m.

In two previous match ups with the Ridgebacks this season, the Marauders won both contests, 3-0 and 1-0.

In London on Sunday, the match was scoreless after the full 90 minutes. In extra time, midfielder Emma Mangialardi (Oakville) scored her fourth goal of the season to win the game.

Goalkeeper Brittany Duffey (Markham) played the full game for the shut out.
