Mountaineers finish in the black in cage tourney

The Mohawk men’s basketball team finished 2-1 in the 18th Annual St. Lawrence Vikings Tournament in Kingston on October 19-21.

In their opener, Mohawk downed Georgian 88-66. Manny Campbell led the Mountaineers’ attack with 20 points, Alex Reis had 15, Taylor Dowhaniuk scored 11 points with 11 rebounds while Andrew Cicuttini had 10 points and 15 rebounds.

Stefan Rudic led Georgian with 17 points.

In their second game, Mohawk lost 77-70 to Seneca as Calmar Morgan paced the Sting with a 23-point effort. Dowhaniuk collected 17 points and 19 rebounds for the Mountaineers, while Reis had 12 points and nine boards.

Mohawk won its last game, 83-76, over Champlain. Cicuttini scored 29 points and had 14 rebounds. Dowhaniuk scored 16 points and chipped in with 10 rebounds. David Belanger led Champlain with 18 points.

Niagara won the tourney with an 83-78 game over Seneca, while George Brown took the consolation game, 72-49, over Fleming.
