The McMaster women’s volleyball team remains winless after two outings in Ontario University Athletics play. The visiting Marauders lost a five-set match 3-2 to the Guelph Gryphons on Friday (Oct. 26).
McMaster jumped to a two set advantage, winning the first game, 25-23. The second set needed extra points before Mac emerged 28-26 victors. McMaster tallied 27 kills in the first two sets.
The third set was lee fortunate for the Marauders as the Gryphons stormed back with a vengeance. Their kill percentage was a game-high 42% in comparison to McMaster’s 4%, forcing a fourth set and winning 25-14.
That set also favoured the home team, 25-21.
In the fifth and deciding set, Guelph came out on top, 15-9. McMaster managed just four kills and had six errors in the fifth set loss.
Kaliee Stock (Newmarket) had a team-high 10 kills in the match, middle Taylor Brisebois (Bolton) tallied eight and libero Meagan Nederveen (Dundas) recorded 21 digs to lead the Marauders.
For the Gryphons, Nicole Collard (Kitchener) had a game-high 16 kills, followed by teammate Julie Gordon (Barrie) who had another 14. Setter Katelyn Larson (Calgary, Alta.) recorded 55 assists.
The Marauders will host the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Sunday (Oct. 28) at noon at Burridge Gymnasium.
