Marauders earn bronze in OUA women’s rugby

Waterloo – The McMaster women’s rugby team won the Ontario University Athletics Bronze medal on Saturday (Oct. 27), defeating the Waterloo Warriors, 26-8.

In a defensive first half, the Marauders were held to just one try, from Claire Lockhart (Waterloo), and one convert, from Madolyn VandePol (East York). On the other end of the field, they gave up just a penalty goal to Warrior Nastasha Vrablic (Cambridge) to head into the second half up 7-3.

The Marauders started off the second half with a try from Hannah Braithwaite (Kingston) and VandePol would get her second convert of the game to go up 14-3.

The home team then marched down the field and the Warriors scored their only try of the match from prop Briana Cunningham (Waterloo).

From then on out, McMaster went on to score two more tries, from Sarah Berry (East York) and another from Braithwaite, and VandePol would add another convert.
