Toronto – The Marauder Marauders, led by veteran Victoria Coates, returned from the Ontario University Athletics cross country championships covered in silver.
The women placed second in the team standings and Coates earned a medal of the same colour in the individual results at the 5 km provincial meet hosted by the York Lions.
The women have now won silver fourth times in a row.
Despite holding out their top woman runner, Lindsay Carson, the Marauders still managed to finish second overall in the team standings with some stellar performances. Coates silver came with a time of 17:59.57 and earned her OUA all-star status for the third time in a row.
Rookie Maddy McDonald placed seventh overall, earning her OUA all-star status with a time of 18:22.36. Courtney Patterson placed 11th at 18:42.41 and Stephanie MacNeill took 14th with a time of 18:45.47. This was Patterson’s first all-star nod and MacNeill’s third.
The men’s side also had great success, finishing fourth overall, their best finish since 2000.
For the men, Taylor Reid was the top finisher after 10 km for the Marauders. His time of 33:08.60 earned him OUA all-star status. Lionel Sanders also placed in the top 10 – ninth – at 33:19.11 to garner all-star nod as well.
The Marauders head to London next weekend to compete at the Canadian Interuniversity Sport championships.
