Don’t tell Mac wrestlers they are rookies

Montreal – Rookies carried the day for McMaster as the Marauders returned home with four silvers medals from the Concordia Invitational Wrestling meet on Sunday (Oct. 28).

With Mixed Martial Arts star George St. Pierre in attendance, Christianna Walker walked away with a silver in the 51kg weight class and rookie Monica Woods took second at 48kg.

For the men, rookies Ahmed Shaymia and Andrew Sinclair also won silvers. Shaymia competed in the 61kg weight class while Sinclair was in the 54kg finals.

The women’s team collected more hardware when Bianca Fung and Erica D’Angelo won their bronze medal matches. Fung was competing in the 48kg weight class, along with teammate Woods and D’Angelo was at 55kg.

Lastly, Andrew Balach also won his bronze medal match, earning the win in the heavyweight category.

The Marauders will host the McMaster Invitational Nov. 5 in Burridge Gymnasium.
