The Marauder men’s and women’s wrestling teams hosted their annual McMaster Invitational on Saturday (Nov. 3) at Burridge Gymnasium, with two Marauders winning gold medals.
Star wrestler Kevin MacLellan defeated Dean Ringuette of the Impact wrestling club in the 82kg weight class and Chris Garneau. won the 65kg weight class over GWC’s Steve Tricarico.
Two silver medals were picked up by women’s side. First-year Monica Wood took second in the 48kg weight class, falling to Lakehead’s Megan Smith. Her teammates, Bianca Fung and Linda Vu, competed for the bronze in the same category with Fung earning the victory.
Nicole Roach, in the 59kg weight class, also earned silver at the Invitational. She was defeated by York’s Kei Yamaha.
A number of Marauders finished fourth in their respective weight classes to round out McMaster’s performances. Christianna Walker was beat by Brock’s Allyssa Cleaves in the 51kg weight class; Ahmed Shamiya also lost to a Badger, Zack Falcioni, in the 61kg weight class; Andrew Sinclair finished fourth at 54kg and Andrew Balach had the same result in the 130kg weight class against Impact’s Yiannus Narlidis.
