The McMaster Marauders women’s volleyball team swept a two-game weekend series against the Lakehead Thunderwolves in Ontario University Athletics play.
They were the first wins of the season for the Marauders who started the new campaign with three straight losses.
On Saturday (Nov. 3), set scores in the match were 25-18, 25-18 and 25-19.
McMaster’s Shannon McRobert had nine kills with four solo blocks and three block assists for 14.5 points on the night. McMaster setter Amanda Weldon finished with 23 assists, four digs and two block assists. Kailee Stock and Camilla Thorne-Tjomsland had eight kills each.
Lakehead top scorer was Vanessa Chorkawy with a game-high 12 kills (on 22 attempts with three errors) and two block assists for 13 points to go with four digs. Jorie Daymond had nine kills on 15 attempts with two errors. Daymond added nine digs to her totals. Lakehead setter Sarah Hudson had 27 assists. Libero Breanne Hilhorst had 11 digs.
The previous night, McMaster took a four-set victory from the Thunderwolves, 25-23, 20-25, 25-20, 25-20.
For the Marauders, Stock had a team-high nine kills and McRobert followed with six. Mira Krunic recorded a team-high 15 digs.
Lakehead’s Daymond had a game-high 16 kills, along with 13 digs. Setter Hudson recorded 39 assists and libero Hilhorst had a game-high 18 digs.
Next up for the Marauders are the Ryerson Rams and the Varsity Blues on Saturday and Sunday (Nov.10-11) in Toronto.
