The McMaster women’s basketball team played a scrappy group of Laurentian Lady Vees Saturday evening (Nov. 10) and came out on the short end of a 76-64 decision. The loss left the Marauders with a 1-1 record in the West Division while Laurentian has the same record in the East.
The Marauders struggled offensively for the entire Ontario University Athletics game and had no answer for Laurentian’s Sasha Polishchuk who scored a game high 32 points.
McMaster actually led at halftime, 31-27, and after three quarters held a 48-41 lead. The fourth quarter saw the teams trade hoops and the maroon held a 58-51 advantage with about six minutes to go. That was when the wheels came off the Marauder train as Laurentian went on a 17-0 run to move in front by 10.
McMaster‘s shooting continued to be frigid in the late stages and Laurentian was able to secure the 12-point win.
The top scorer for the Marauders was Danielle Boiago with 15, while Isabel Ormond and Rachael Holmes both added 13. The Marauders only shot 30% from the floor for the game.
Along with Polishchuk’s outstanding game, Laurentian got a double-double from Emma Decloe, who finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Laurentian crushed McMaster on the boards by a 48-33 margin.
The Marauders continue OUA crossover play in Ottawa next weekend, with tough games against Carleton Ravens and Ottawa Gee-Gees.
