McMaster swept all three positions – offence, defence and special teams – after its repeat Yates Cup performance that include the Marauders 20th straight victory on Saturday (Nov. 10) over the Guelph Gryphons. With the win, the defending national Vanier Cup Marauders advanced to the Mitchell Bowl and will take on the Calgary Dinos.

Quarterback Kyle Quinlan (South Woodslee) generated over 300 yards of total offence as he spearheaded the Marauders to a 30-13 victory in the 105th Yates Cup. The fifth-year pivot did damage with both his arm and his legs, completing 16 of 20 passes (80% completion rate) for 265 yards and two touchdown tosses, while rushing 11 times for 70 yards.

When Quinlan didn’t have the ball, his defensive teammates, led by linebacker Shane Beaton (Brampton) led a ferocious McMaster defence that controlled the Gryphons en route to McMaster’s sixth Yates Cup title.

Beaton, a fifth-year veteran, had 10 solo tackles, including three tackles for a loss and one pass knockdown as he patrolled the field for the Marauders. Beaton was recognized for his efforts with the Dalt White Trophy as the MVP of the Yates Cup game.

On special teams, kicker Tyler Crapigna (Nepean, Ont.) had another consistent outing. The third-year kicker nailed his only field goal attempt from 20 yards and added three converts for a perfect day on placements.

He averaged 31.3 yards/punt on nine punts, putting three out of bounds inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. Crapigna also averaged an outstanding 63-yards per kick on three kickoffs, forcing Guelph’s return team to start from deep in its own end.
