Basketball Mountaineers reach the peak in rankings

After knocking Algoma University from the ranks of the undefeated, the Mohawk men’s basketball team is ranked No. 1 in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association this week.

The Mountaineers, the reigning Ontario and Canadian champions, sent the Thunderbirds tumbling to No. 4 in the CCAA rankings after a tight 60-57 verdict in Sault Ste. Marie. Mohawk improved to 4-0 with the victory. The Mountaineers also downed Sault College on their trip north.

Meanwhile, Mohawk’s men’s volleyball team, which scored victories over St. Clair and Fanshawe, moved up one position in the rankings to No. 10. The Mountaineers are now 3-0.

The Fennell Gymnasium is the site for Ontario Colleges Athletic Association volleyball action Wednesday (Nov. 14) as Conestoga checks into town. The women play at 6 pm, followed by the men two hours later.
