Ottawa – The Ottawa Gee Gees picked up their first win of Ontario University Athletics women’s basketball, downing the McMaster Marauders, 82-55.
The loss Left McMaster with a 1-2 record in the West Division while Ottawa improved to 1-2 in the East.
The Gee-Gees took an early 29-14 first quarter lead but McMaster closed the gap to just eight points in the second frame, holding the Gee-Gees to just eight points heading into half time.
The third quarter would really be McMaster’s downfall as they would give up another 24 points while managing just 10 of their own.
Four Gee-Gees hit double digits including Jenna Gilbert who was the game’s high scorer with 17 points. Maddie Stephen added another 14 for Ottawa, Tatiana Hanlan scored 12, and Kellie Ring contributed 10.
Rookie Danielle Boiago was the only Marauder to hit double digits with 11 points and guard Liz Burns added nine.
The Marauders take on the Carleton Ravens Saturday.
