Gee-Gees inflict capital punishment on basketball Marauders


Ottawa – The McMaster men’s basketball team fell to the Ottawa Gee-Gees, 84-62, on Friday (Nov. 16) in their first game of the weekend in the nation’s capital.

The Marauders never had control of the Ontario University Athletics contest in dropping their record to 1-2. Ottawa had a 28-18 lead after the opening quarter and never looked back.

Pacing the Gee-Gees was Johnny Berhanemeskel who had a game-high 23 points. Guard Warren Ward also had an outstanding game for Ottawa with 18 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Mike L’Africain and Caleb Agada added 15 and 10 points, respectively.

Guard and veteran Scott Laws was the only Marauder to hit double digits with 11 points. Nathan Pelech had nine points and grabbed seven rebounds.

McMaster takes on the No. 2 Carleton Ravens Saturday (Nov. 17).
