Sixteen teams from across the province are poised to converge on three Hamilton high schools’ gymnasiums hoping to leave the Steel City as Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations boys volleyball champions in the AAAA division.
Two of those teams, which will compete over four days beginning Thursday (Nov.22), represent Hamilton schools: Cathedral Gaels will fly the colours of the Golden Horseshoe Athletic Council, and Westmount will play under the banner of the Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association. GHAC will also be represented by Georgetown District High School.
Also appearing in the provincial showcase are: Waterloo Collegiate Institute (Central Western Ontario AA); Toronto’s St. Michaels College (Conference of Independent Schools AA); Vaughan’s St. Jean de Brebeuf Catholic High School and Unionville’s Bill Crothers SS (York Region AA); Barrie’s Eastview SS (Georgian Bay SSA): London’s Saunders SS (Western Ontario SSA); Whitby’s Sinclair SS (Lake Ontario SSA); Glebe Collegiate Institute (National Capital SSAA); Windsor’s Holy Name HS and Chatham’s Ursulin College (South Western Ontario SSA); Etobicoke’s Michael Power-St. Joseph (Toronto District College AA); Agincourt’s Dr. Norman Bethune CI (Toronto District SSAA); and Mississauga’s Rick Hansen SS (Region of Peel SSAA).
Games will be played at Cathedral, St. Mary, and Bishop Tonnos high schools with opening rounds starting at 9 a.m. on Thursday. Saturday’s gold medal game is set for 3 p.m. at Bishop Tonnos.
