Promising start fizzles for Marauders

Ottawa – After opening their Ontario University Athletics season on a winning note, the McMaster Marauders men’s basketball team went down to their third straight defeat, a 100-88 result, to the Carleton Ravens, ranked No. 2 nationally.

After the first quarter on Saturday (Nov. 17), McMaster found itself leading 21-20. But the second quarter would prove to be the Marauders undoing as Carleton outgunned the Marauders. McMaster went into the second half trailing, 42-33.

In the third quarter, the Marauders may a game effort get back in the game and despite outscoring the Ravens in the final quarter, 28-23, Carleton waltzed to the win.

Tyson Hinz was the game-high scorer with 25 points and he would add nine rebounds and five assists. Phil Scrubb would be right behind him with 24 points, Clinton Springer-Williams and Kewyn Blain would score 14 each and adding 13 with six rebounds was Thomas Scrubb.

For McMaster, centre Taylor Black was the team-high scorer with 23 points. Second-year Joe Rocca was right behind him with 21 points and rookie Rohan Boney added another 13. Second-year Adam Presutti contributed 10.

The result McMaster with a 1-3 record in the West Division. Windsor Lancers, with their 3-1 record, top the division with six points followed by five teams, including McMaster, with two points. Ryerson leads the East group with a perfect 4-0 mark while Carleton, Queen’s, Laurentian and Ottawa are 3-1.
