Marauders keep volleyball win streak alive


The McMaster Marauders men’s volleyball team will take a perfect 9-0 record into the Christmas break after a four-set win over the Western Mustangs on Sunday (Nov. 25).

Playing in London, the Marauders followed up Saturday’s victory in Windsor with a 25-23, 24-26, 25-20, 25-19 decision. That left McMaster as the only undefeated team in Ontario University Athletics volleyball play.

Four Marauders hit double digits in the game. Rookie middle Dany Demyanenko recorded an outstanding 20 points, including a game-high 17 kills, two blocks and an ace. Rookie Jayson McCarthy followed his teammate with 14.5 points on 10 kills, two aces and 2.5 blocks.

Kevin Stevens and Stephen Maar also hit double digits against the Mustangs with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Setter Austin Campion-Smith recorded 43 assists in the win.

For the Mustangs, veteran Garrett May scored a team-high 18 points on 16 kills and two aces. Phil James added another 11 points and Luke Sim rounded it out with 10 points of his own.

McMaster will resume regular season play on Jan.11 with a game against the Toronto Varsity Blues in Burridge Gymnasium.
