Water sport athletes take weekly OUA honour


Oakville native Zack Chetrat, a member of the Toronto Varsity Blues swimming team earns the Pioneer Energy Ontario University Athletics Male Athlete of the Week for the period ending Nov. 25.

Chetrat won two gold medals in leading the Varsity Blues to the 2012 University Cup title on Thursday (Nov. 22) at Varsity Pool. He set a meet record in winning the 100-metre butterfly in 53.24 seconds, a full second ahead of Alberta’s Joshua Au.

The fourth-year economics and political science major also took the 400-metre freestyle title with a Canadian Interuniversity Sport standard of 3:51.22.

Chetrat helped the Blues claim the men’s (302 points) and overall title (598) at the event.

The Female Athlete of the Week is Sarah McIlveen of the Carleton Ravens water polo team.

She helped the Ravens’ women’s water polo team reclaim the OUA banner at the championship tournament held in Ottawa this past weekend.

The Scarborough native scored 20 goals over four games en route to being named the tournament MVP. The Ravens defeated the Toronto Varsity Blues 6-5 in double overtime to secure the win.
