Top OCAA teams set for a showdown

The Mohawk men’s basketball team, which went from being the top ranked team in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association to No. 5 last week, jumped up two positions to No. 3 in this week’s national listing.

The Mountaineers downed Canadore 73-66 in North Bay on Nov. 24 and Redeemer, 75-47 on Nov. 21 to prompt the improved position.

Two B.C. teams, Langara College of Vancouver and Vancouver Island University of Nanaimo, are one-two in the latest rankings.

Mohawk brings its 7-1 record into Sheridan College on Thursday (Nov. 28) to take on the Bruins, who also have a 7-1 chart in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association’s West Division.

Meanwhile, the Mohawk men’s volleyball team, which downed Canadore 3-0 Nov. 23, but then lost a heartbreaking 3-2 decision at Nipissing the next day, tumbled from 10th to 15th in the rankings.

Alberta’s Red Deer College is this week’s top rated team.
