The St. Clair Saints used a big second quarter to knock off the Mohawk Mountaineers, 72-56, in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association women’s basketball at the Fennell Gymnasium on Saturday (Dec. 1)
After leading by just four points after the first quarter, the visitors from Windsor outscored the Mountaineers by a four-to-one margin to lead 35-16 at half time.
Mohawk rebounded in the second to outscored the Saints, 40-37, in the second half, but the damage had already been done and the Mountaineers saw their record drop to 5-4 while St. Clair improved to 4-4.
Mohawk is fourth in the West Division while the Saints are sixth.
Bienka Jones scored 25 points for the Saints, while Kendyl Rizea added 18 points, plus 10 rebounds.
For the Mountaineers, Careena Browne scored 16 points and Daniella Randazzo had 12.
Next OCAA action for the Mountaineers will be Jan. 16 when they travel to London to play the second place Fanshawe Falcons.
