Will Marauders make return to Yates Cup final?

The McMaster Marauders begin their attempt at a third consecutive Yates Cup title on Aug. 25, when they host the Ottawa Gee-Gees at Ron Joyce Stadium to kick off Ontario University Athletics football for 2013.

The Gee-Gees will be looking to build on a rocky 2012 campaign but will have their work cut out for them as McMaster hasn’t suffered a loss at home since Sept. 10, 2011.

And OUA fans should mark Sept. 21 on their calendars for the highly anticipated 105th Yates Cup rematch. The Guelph Gryphons have the benefit of the 13th man, as they look to avenge their OUA championship banner loss in front of an enthusiastic Homecoming Crowd at Alumni Stadium.

This new season will feature the addition of the Carleton Ravens into the OUA football fold.

Other schedule highlights include:

When the Ravens return to the gridiron in the fall, it will mark 34 years since Carleton has been in contention for the Yates Cup. The Ravens kick off their 2013 campaign on Labour Day when they visit the Western Mustangs.
Western’s football season has ended at the hands of the Marauders for two years in a row, and the Mustangs need no extra motivation when they travel to Hamilton to take on McMaster on Sept. 7. Week 3 also boasts a number of great firsts. The Ottawa Gee-Gees host the Toronto Varsity Blues at the brand new on-campus football stadium, while the Carleton Ravens welcome the Waterloo Warriors at the new and improved Ravens’ Field.
The battle of Waterloo will take place on Sept. 14 as Laurier makes the short trek down the street to take on cross-town rivals, the Waterloo Warriors at Warrior Field.
Homecoming season begins as alumni travel back to watch the Windsor Lancers host the Toronto Varsity Blues on Sept. 21 to mark the 50th anniversary of the University of Windsor.
Homecoming continues across OUA in Week 6, highlighted by the Queen’s/Western rivalry matchup at TD Waterhouse Stadium in London.
The Gee-Gees/Ravens cross canal rivalry will be renewed on the campus of the University of Ottawa on Oct. 5. Ottawa holds a 31-13 all-time edge in the historic rivalry.
The 44th annual Red and Blue Bowl takes place on October 10 as the York Lions host the Toronto Varsity Blues under the lights of York Stadium. The winner of this game will take home the Argo Cup and is entitled to football bragging rights for another year in the city of Toronto.
Richardson Stadium will be filled with tri-coloured fans on Oct. 19 as the Guelph Gryphons visit the Queen’s Gaels in a rematch of the thrilling Yates Cup semifinal, when the Gryphs overcame a 22-point deficit to defeat the Gaels 42-39 in overtime.

Regular season play will conclude on Saturday, Oct. 19, with teams vying for a post-season berth.

The OUA quarter-finals are set for Saturday, Oct. 26, followed by the semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 2. The season concludes at the 106th Yates Cup presented by Pioneer Energy on Saturday, Nov. 9.
