MVC Blacks turn to Gold

The Mountain Volleyball Club Black and Maroon teams finished with a Gold medal and a fourth place standing at the Ontario Volleyball Association 13U Provincial Cup in Stratford on the Dec. 1-2 weekend.

The MVC 13U Maroon won both its pool matches defeating the London Sharks, 25-16, 25-22, and the Niagara Rapids Red, 27-25, 25-23.

In the quarters finals, the Maroon team went on to defeat the Niagara Rapids Blue, 14-25, 25-17, 16-14, and lost to the Niagara Rapids Black, 25-20, 25-19, in the semifinals.

For the Bronze medal, MVC Maroon lost to LVC Inferno, 25-22, 25-21.

The MVC 13U Maroon team is coached by Jerry Olejarz of Dundas and Peter Stratford of Burlington.

The MVC 13U Maroon athletes include: Brianna Quijano, Hamilton; Meaghan Boatsmith, Dundas; Victoria Fisher, Dundas; Jamie Mataseje, Ancaster; Paige Entwistle, Ancaster; Jessica Holmes, Ancaster; Kaitlin Johnny, Hamilton; Ella Carter, Hamilton; Sarah Reilly, Hamilton; Emily Keeting, Milton; and Shaelyn Francis, Binbrook.

The MVC 13U Black team also won both its pool matches defeating the Waterloo Tigers Black, 25-11, 25-9, and the Niagara Rapids Blue, 25-10, 25-15.

MVC 13U Black went on to defeat the host team, Stratford Stingers, 25-8, 19-25, 15-6, in the quarter finals and the LVC Inferno, 25-12, 25-14, in the semifinals.

The MVC 13U Black team finished strong to defeat the Niagara Rapids Black, 25-18, 25-15, to win their first Gold medal of the season.

The 13U Black team is coached by Stratford, and Kristin Kawamoto of Hamilton. Team members include: Elisa Mejia, Stoney Creek; Grace Heath, Hamilton; Khloe Mattiozzi, Hamilton; Felicia Malavolta, Hamilton; Taylor Morrison, Hamilton; Zofia Olejarz, Dundas; Megan Richer, Dundas; Megan Grosso, Carlisle; and Christina Stratford, Burlington.
