The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Lake Erie Monsters, 1-0, at Copps Coliseum on Tuesday night (Dec. 11) during their annual Toy Toss game.
Steve Quailer scored the Toy Toss tally which stood as the winner with just over three minutes left in regulation time, while Cedrick Desjardins stopped 29 shots for his second shutout of the American Hockey League season.
After scoreless first and second periods, the Bulldogs led the Monsters, 28-22, in shots on goal.
Quailer’s game-winning tally came at 16:17 of the third period while the Bulldogs were on a power-play. Quailer cut in from the right wing boards and while falling tapped the puck in on the open side past goaltender Calvin Pickard.
The goal was all the 3,945 fans in attendance needed to start a cascade of stuff animals onto the ice.
Desjardins picked up his fifth win and second shutout in his seventh game of the season by stopping all 29 Lake Erie shots. The Bulldogs outshot the Monsters 45-29.
The Bulldogs’ next game is against the Wolves in Chicago on Thursday (Dec. 13).
