MVC girls find gold at OVA Provincial Cups

The Mountain Volleyball Club 18U and 17U Girls teams both won Gold medals at OVA Provincial Cups held in Kitchener and Welland this past weekend (Dec 15-16).

In Kitchener, the MVC 18U team placed second after pool play, defeating Ms Pakmen 17U 25-17, 25-21, then splitting with Sarnia Thunder 25-27, 28-26 and with the Waterloo Tigers Black 25-17, 21-25.

In the quarter finals, MVC 18U defeated Oakville Thunder Blue 25-17, and 25-9 as well as Eclipse West 25-23, 25-23 in the semifinals.

MVC finished with a solid win over Georgetown Impact 25-20, 25-21 to win the Gold medal and move up to the Premier division for 2013.

The MVC 18U team is coached by Jos Nederveen of Dundas, Mike Fuchs of Glanbrook, Kirstie Shepherd of Stoney Creek and Laurie Fernandez of Hamilton.

Representing the team are Maicee Sorensen (Hamilton), Kaitlyn Mattiozzi (Hamilton), Jessica Klassen (Hamilton), Mary-Kate Alliston (Ancaster), Leah Sharp (Dundas), Kirsten Bialachowski (Stoney Creek), Gaitlin Genovy (Stoney Creek), Randi Carey (Waterdown), Leah Feuerstake (Waterdown), Linday Vanderweide (Waterdown), Madi Taylor (St. Catharines), and Olivia Colling (Grimsby).

U17 Girls win gold in Welland

Playing up an age division at the OVA 18U Girls Provincial Cup in Welland, the MVC 17U Girls team won the gold medal.

MVC 17U team placed second after pool play, splitting with London VC 19-25, 25-21,15-12 and losing to the Etobicoke Titans 14-25, 25-23,14-16.

In the pre-quarters, MVC 17U soundly defeated the Waterloo Tigers 17U Black 25-8, 25-22 and the Chatham Ballhawks 25-16, 25-17 in the quarter finals.

mvc_dec2012bThe MVC 17U continued to roll in the semifinals, defeating the Niagara Rapids 25-14, 25-10 and moved on to win over the Stratford Stingers 25-20, 26-24 to take home the Gold medal.

The MVC 17U team is coached by Steve Bonazza and Ben Goerzen of St. Catharines. Athletes include Caileigh Sangster (Waterdown), Briana Layard (Burlington), Madison Lenders (Stoney Creek), Hayley Genovy (Stoney Creek), Jenna Mazza-Anthony (Stoney Creek), Savannah Browne (Hamilton), Vicky Golebiowski (Binbrook), and Libby Donevan (St. Catharines).
