Bulldogs scoring touch takes holiday break


bulldogsRochester – For the second game in a row, the Hamilton Bulldogs came up empty handed in American Hockey League play as the Rochester Americans blanked the visitors, 2-0, on Monday afternoon (Dec. 31).

David Leggio stopped all 34 shots Hamilton fired at the netminder and Evan Rankin scored what would stand as the winning goal early in the first period. On Saturday night, the Lake Erie Monsters shutout the Bulldogs, 4-0.

Rankin’s goal came at 6:33 of the opening frame on a power-play. Brian Flynn brought the puck over the left side and feathered a pass to Rankin in the slot. Rankin beat goalie Cedrick Desjardins for his eighth of the season.

Rochester made it 2-0 on a goal by Mark Mancari at 11:15 of the middle frame. Mancari skated down the boards on the right side and took a shot from a sharp angle which squeaked over the shoulder of Desjardins and into the net.
The third period was scoreless as the shots were 12-4 for the Bulldogs, who finished the night with a 34-26 margin in shots.

The Bulldogs’ next game is against the Marlies in Toronto on Wednesday (Jan. 2) at 7 p.m
