Newest Real McCoy helps Dundas ring in New Year

165px-Dundas_Real_McCoysDundas Real McCoys finished the year in fine style as they trounced the Whitby Dunlops, 6-2, in the final Allan Cup Hockey game to be played in the JL Grightmire Arena in 2012 on Friday (Dec. 28).

The McCoys aim to pick up where they left off when they hit the ice again against the Orillia Sunrise Toyota Tundras at 7:45 p.m. in the West Orillia Sports Complex on Friday (Jan. 4). The two clubs will play a return engagement on Friday, Jan. 11 in the Grightmire Arena. Game time is 7:45 p.m.

Sandwiched with those games is a Jan. 9 contest in Whitby against the Dunlops.

Brantford Blast leads the five-team league with 12 wins and one loss followed by Whitby with eight wins, three losses, an overtime loss and two shootout losses. Third place goes to the McCoys with eight wins and seven defeats. Orillia sits fourth with eight points, two more than the fifth place Welland Whalers.

In the win over the Dunlops, three second-period Dundas goals were the undoing for Whitby. Scott Mifsud scored twice with Scott Stafford, Mike Berry, Ryan Christie, and Brad Jackson adding the others for Dundas.

Brett McConnachie and Steve Cornelissen replied for Whitby.

Six-foot, 195-pound Dan Torres who came over from the Dunlops in a trade prior to the game, made his presence felt on both the ice and the score sheet (one assist). The 26-year-old forward from Toronto had played five games this season for the Dunlops. During the past two seasons, he had 15 goals and 26 assists for 41 points in 34 games. In the 2012 playoffs, he was in the top five in team scoring.
