Win sends Mohawk cagers to semi-finals

MohawkA good start to the Vikings women’s basketball tournament in Kingston on Friday (Jan. 4) for Mohawk College.

The Mountaineers topped Nouvelle Frontieres of Gatineau Quebec, 57-39. Katelyn Arbour and Carissa Browne each had 11 points for Mohawk, while Kimithy Stillwell added eight.

“Overall, it was a great team effort at both ends of the court,” said Mountaineers’ coach Kevin Duffy. “We had balanced scoring, gang rebounding and played excellent defense.”

Duffy said his players were very focused, had minimal turnovers and made great decisions with the basketball all game.

The win puts the Mountaineers into semi-final play Saturday night against the host St. Lawrence Vikings, who crushed the Georgian Grizzlies, 91-36.
