The McMaster Marauders came away with three wins and silver medals to show for their holiday volleyball tournament against some of the toughest competition that Canadian Interuniversity Sport has to offer.
McMaster compiled a 3-1 record over the course of the Alden Cup Collegiate Classic in St. Petersburg, Florida, falling in four sets – 21-25, 25-19, 13-25, 16-25 – to the Manitoba Bisons in Sunday’s (Jan.6) gold medal match.
The loss followed consecutive wins over the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds (3-2), the CIS No. 4-ranked Laval Rouge et Or (3-0) and the Calgary Dinos (3-0).
McMaster returns to Ontario University Athletics conference play on Friday (Jan.11) when the Marauders welcome the University of Toronto Varsity Blues to the Burridge Gym as part of a double-header. The men’s match will get underway at 8 p.m., after the conclusion of the women’s match at 6 p.m.
