The Nipissing Lakers volleyball teams each improved to 9-2 defeating the Mohawk Mountaineers in an OCAA twin-bill at the Fennell Campus Saturday (Jan. 12). At the same time, Mohawk’s teams both fell to 6-5.
The North Bay University side swept the Mohawk women 25-13, 25-19, 25-18.
It was not a good afternoon offensively for the Mountaineers. Melissa DeHaan had eight points from seven kills and one stuff block. Chi Chi Chuks-Mady had three kills, one service ace, one block and seven digs. Lynsay Collette contributed eight digs.
Brittany Ardron led Nipissing with 10 kills and one ace. Brittany MacComish had seven kills and one block.
In the men’s match, Mohawk won the first set, but Nipissing rallied for a 21-25, 25-13, 25-18, 25-21 decision. For the Mountaineers, Mo Sulaiman had 13 kills, while Trevor McLaughlin collected 10 kills and one block and Eric Danecke recorded eight kills and one block.
Tom Podstaska had a big match for Nipissing, with 15 kills and three aces. Scott Coulthard came up with 11 kills.
