He contributed 6.5 points in the team’s straight-set win over the Toronto Varsity Blues on Friday, including three service aces and two kills. But it was on Saturday, against Ryerson, that McCarthy enjoyed his greatest success. With the Marauders battling through a tough, five-set win, the rookie led all scorers with 21.5 points and converted 17 of his 30 hitting attempts with only four errors (43.3%).
He added two more aces in the win, including a set winner in the second.
Madeline McDonald, a first-year runner out of Toronto, led the Marauder women’s track team in its season-opening race at the Can Am Meet in Windsor on Saturday.
McDonald topped the podium in the women’s 3,000m race, winning with a time of 10.01.91.
The long distance specialist led the race throughout, and finished 17 seconds ahead of the field to take the gold handily.
